Fun Box Monster Podcast #98 Slaughterhouse (1987)
Friday Mar 26, 2021
Friday Mar 26, 2021
At it's core, Slaughterhouse is an inspiring tale of a father and son triumphing over the corporate forces that would take over and industrialize their beloved family farm. However if we zoom out to the macro level, it could be said to be the story of America.
When Lester Bacon, owner of Bacon and Sons Slaughterhouse, is offered a deal to either pay off his back taxes or sell out to corporate interests, he doesn't look to the government for a bailout. He pulls himself up by his bootstraps, and through sweat and gumption, convinces his deranged three-hundred-fifty pound boy Buddy to murder them with his custom pig-foot meat cleaver.
Buddy is truly the "everyman" in this story. Like many of us, he is a massive lumbering murderer who only speaks in pig-grunts, due to being mostly raised by hogs. His story is our story, and his triumphs are our triumphs.
Your heart will soar as you attend the KFAT Pigout dance, and see the blooming romance between Skip and Liz who's dream to make a "horror video" will sadly go unfulfilled. As well as other characters who probably had hopes and dreams, but the director decided they were none of our business. You'll cheer, as Skip is later impaled on a meathook, preventing countless deaths due to his terrible driving.
You'll laugh and cry, and maybe...just maybe, Buddy can teach you a little bit about yourself in the process.
So get your little screamers out of the room, open your finest can of dog food, and sit back as Matt and Tristan discuss one of The American Film Institue's Top 100 movies of all time, Slaughterhouse.

In a very special episode of The Fun Box Monster Podcast, we find the answer to the question, "What if Troma was given a million dollars to remake Grease, but had to keep it PG-13?"
When some guys dressed as nuns try to kill Jermaine Jackson in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, Pia Zamora runs off with him and they have a Romeo and Juliet thing which turns out to have been just a music video from another planet.
If watching this happen in the first five minutes of a movie is too much for you, Voyage of the Rock Aliens may not be your cup of tea. But if it leave you wanting more, get ready for a fake DEVO, a giant murderous tentacle, a chronically ill puma, the fake Stray Cats, Ruth Gordon leering at dudes through a telescope and a terrifyingly cut Craig Scheffer. This was a special episode we did with my wife Michelle, and she is fully to blame for this episode. Enjoy!

Friday Mar 05, 2021
Friday Mar 05, 2021
Gather 'round kids and let old grandpappy spin you a yarn about old Paul Bunyan and his big blue ox Babe. Well, you see old Paul was a great big feller. Looked kinda like a lost member of that band GWAR. Now everyone hated old paul because he was a horrible mutant. And old Paul, he only loved two things in the world, his Ox, and some lady who didn't actually like him or seem to even know who he was.
Sadly one day old Babe caught some type of digital rabies and started floating around the forest 2 or 3 inches off the ground. Round about that time, a kindly old lumberjack came by to put poor old Babe out of his misery. Paul, being a bloodthirsty mutant, didn't appreciate the help from the lumberjacks and cut them all into tiny pieces with his mighty axe. And that's the story about how the "Field of Dismembered Lumberjacks National Forest" came to be. So pull out your massive ox-horn bong, update you Adobe After Effects license, and join Matt and Tristan for the tallest tale ever told, Axe Giant : The Wrath of Paul Bunyan.

Before that inevitable conclusion, you get a pile of fun scenes including a wasp that punches a dude in the face, Ed and Lorraine Warren reimagined as a cool biker couple, a giant mouse that torments a child, goo, more wasps, weird little sack people, a jiggly rubber satan puppet, and some dollar store cenobites. Fun Box Monster Podcast #92 Plutonium Baby (1987)
Friday Feb 19, 2021
Friday Feb 19, 2021
Every generation there comes a movie that is so transformational to the very fabric of society that it is hard to step back and see it as simply a film. Plutonium Baby is such a film. Although it has been seen by only a handful of people, Plutonium Baby has been called the greatest film of the twentieth century. The scene of Billy eating a whole trout by the pond has been hailed as a possible cure for arthritis. The forty minutes of walking through New York with no purpose, motivation, or plot has been seen by some as a potent commentary on the bleak loneliness of city life. Any philistine could see the hidden meaning of the scene where Danny and his adopted mother have a mumbling conversation about nothing in half-built aerobics studio as a poignant commentary on what lays beneath society's carefully built facade, but did you ever think about of how the inclusion of the birdcage in her kitchen during the pulse-pounding five minute grocery unpacking scene was a clear insight into the mental prison she had built for herself by adopting Danny, the child she never expected to have? Not to mention her loveless marriage? On a very special episode of The Fun Box Monster Podcast, Tristan and Matt will examine both the cultural and political impact that the film had on our society and very possibly the world at large.

Fun Box Monster Podcast #91 : The Curse (1987)
Friday Feb 12, 2021
Friday Feb 12, 2021
The Curse is the story of a woman trying to keep her family together by marrying a man who is conservatively eighty years her senior. The son, played by a young and very unhappy Wil Wheaton, makes the crazy logic leap that the giant, veiny, glowing sphere that has skidded a half-mile across the family farm, might just be from space. The family remains unconvinced, even as their vegetables and livestock start to become infected by slimy space-testicle goop that seems to be causing both chicken and horse attacks. After a short time, the parents and evil step-brother are transformed into raving mad space monsters trying to kill Wil and his sister. Plus, there's a sub-plot about somebody scouting locations for a water reservoir! Sounds great right? Well it is. So grab your most outlandishly huge squash, call over your hunky hired hand, and settle in as Matt and Tristan discuss the CLASSIC 1987 film, The Curse.

Fun Box Monster Podcast #90 Dolls (1987)
Friday Feb 05, 2021
Friday Feb 05, 2021
1987's Dolls is a sort of modern-day retelling of the story of Hansel and Gretel. Only instead of a candy, this house is made mostly of dry-rot and mouse poop. You still have the two innocent children, but they are now played by a little girl (Judy), and a child-like adult (Ralph). The comparison breaks down here, because our witch is actually a husband and wife witch team, who are seemingly tasked with punishing shitty parents and criminal Brit-Punks. Long story short, some folks get killed by dolls, turned into dolls, and a small child fantasizes about the gruesome murder of her parents by a grizzly bear. So put on your silk pajamas, bake a nice tray of imaginary cookies, and join Matt and Tristan for what is arguably the best killer doll movie ever made, Dolls.

Fun Box Monster Podcast #89 Puppet Master (1989)
Friday Jan 22, 2021
Friday Jan 22, 2021
André Toulon is a kindly old puppet maker. For reasons unknown, he has an ancient papyrus scroll with the secret to imbuing inanimate objects (specifically puppets...but I don't see any rules that it wouldn't work with toasters and couches) with life. When he sees two (maybe?) SS officers coming to capture him, he kills himself to avoid his secrets getting into the hands of the (Nazis?)
Humanity has now been spared the horror of Hitler fighting WWII with sentient puppets, only to have a douchey occultist named Neil take the power of immortality for himself. For reasons unknown, he lures some psychic subcontractors that he never paid, out to his sham funeral with the express purpose of killing them one-by-one. Why kill them? Who cares? All that matters is that his puppets are adorable and sometimes kill people. Maybe because they have no choice? Maybe because they feel like it. It's all kind of unclear. Don't worry. There's 12 sequels to help you make sense of it.
So put on your officially licensed Full Moon Blade costume, hug your officially licensed Full Moon Six Shooter doll close, and join Matt and Tristan for the endlessly entertaining Full Moon marketing opportunity that is, Puppet Master.
